Description
Translated into English by Thomas Shelton; introduction by Royal Cortissoz. Profusely illustrated throughout by Daniel Vierge. 4 thick volumes. Bound in the original green cloth with burgundy leather spine labels; uncut edges, top edge gilt. London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1906. Limited "Vierge" edition -- number 163 of only 165 sets. Spines are a bit sunned and labels are scuffed but internally it is solid. The III Volume has a slight seam issue about 2" on the lower corner - see Video. I can say convincingly that this was a "Collectors Copy" since a few of the page have not been separated. Inside is mint, lithographs are spotless. It's a piece of History! The Illustrator is a Museum worthy Individual: Daniel Vierge was a Spanish-born French illustrator who revolutionized the reproduction of illustrations. Born: March 5, 1851, Madrid, Spain Died: May 10, 1904 (age 53 years), Boulogne-Billancourt, France Includes Receipts of previous owner from 1943 with 1946 Mailer advertising this set. What an awesome history this book has had!!
